This is one of the most thrilling stories in the
whole Bible! One that should be told again
and again! It starts with Abram (later changed to
Abraham, but I am getting ahead of the story).
Abraham is acknowledged by all students of the Bible
as the "FATHER OF OUR FATIH."
Most of us know the beginning of this miracle:
the calling of God to Abram to leave his home and
country (probably the land of Iraq) and go to the land
of Canaan, the land of present day Israel. The story
starts with war! The kings of the region (now Israel)
all went to war. Lot, Abram's nephew, had chosen to
live down near the well watered plains near Sodom.
As it turns out, one of the kings of the valley,
Chedorlaomer, won the battle and took the possessions
of Sodom, including Lot and his whole family! When
word of this reached Abram, he rallied his whole
company (only 318 men) and chased a whole army of
heathen warriors and, with overwhelming odds
against him, won the victory and rescued Lot and his
whole household! As Abram returned victoriously he
met a most interesting king —
"And Melchizedek king of Salem [later
Jerusalem] brought forth bread and wine:
and he was the priest of the most high God"!
Gen. 14:18
Now, here is where it gets most interesting
because "THE KING OF SALEM" went on to say —
"Blessed be Abram of the most high God,
possessor of heaven and earth." Gen. 14:19
He goes on to say —
"And blessed be the most high God which
hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand."
Gen. 14:20
Now here is the KEY to the gift still giving:
"AND HE [ABRAM] GAVE HIM TITHES OF
ALL"! Obviously, this was a tithe of all of the
victorious spoils he had won from the heathen kings
— plus the liberation of his nephew, Lot.
Many students of the Bible believe that this "KING
OF SALEM" was none other than the pre-incarnate
Jesus Christ! I personally believe this to be true; but,
here is the KEY to YOUR PROSPERITY which
this story has been leading to.
After the great victory and after the giving of
tithes to the "KING OF SALEM" this story really
gets exciting!
"After these things the word of the LORD came
unto Abram in a vision...'I am thy shield, and thy
exceeding great reward.'" Gen. 15:1
But here it is — the KEY that is now turned in the lock!
Here is the answer to your need—
"And Abram said, Lord God what wilt thou give
me...?" Gen. 15:2
Right here is where the critics of God's children being
prosperous fall flat on their faces! Abram was 90 years old,
but had no son of his own to inherit his estate. God
answers by saying:
"He that shall come forth out of thine own bowels
shall be thine heir." Gen. 15:4
Now, here are two more keys to your miracle. First of
all, it may not come immediately. Abram and Sarah his
wife waited ten whole years before Isaac was born! In the
meantime, they tried to hurry God along by Abram taking
Sarah's servant girl and produced Ishmael — a big mistake.
So, KEY NUMBER TWO: don't try to help God! He
is perfectly capable of fulfilling His promises! But this is
a whole separate story.
The main KEY is: "And he believed in the LORD,
and he counted it to him for righteousness." Gen. 15:6
There is so much more to this amazing story. One part
is terrifying! God asked Abram for an awesome offering
— his miracle son, Isaac, as a burnt offering to the Lord!
This part is a story all its own, but begins the answer to
Abram's question, "Lord GOD, what wilt thou give
me?" (Gen. 15:2). Not only did God give Abram back his
son, but also changed his name—
"Neither shall thy name anymore be called Abram,
but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of
many nations have I made thee." Gen. 17:5
So, Abraham gave God (the King of Salem) a tithe
of all his victory spoils from the heathen kings. God
gave Abraham his own son, the whole land of Israel and
several million acres of real estate. The record also
shows, "And [Abraham] was very rich in cattle, in
silver and in gold." Gen. 13:2
Would God have blessed Abraham so greatly had
he not given to Him? You tell me! We still love to quote
Jesus' own words:
"Give, and it shall be given unto thee...."
Luke 6:38
Are you still waiting for your miracle? Don’t be
impatient! Abraham and Sarah were 100 years old for
Abraham and 90 years old for Sarah! But don’t forget
the main KEY:
"And he [Abraham] believed in the LORD, and
he [God] counted it to him for righteousness."
Gen. 15:6
And never forget: the beginning of your miracle is
your gift to God!
